Nearing Home

I have to admit, I felt very solemn reading this book. I felt as if this were a "farewell" in so many ways from a man of God that on one can ever imagine losing in this world. Billy Graham has always been larger than life, living for the Lord and reaching out to the lost. In "Nearing Home," Dr. Graham reaches out to us all in a different way. He writes through years of wisdom that doesn't come without experience . . . he's preparing us to "go home," to live with the Lord forever. And in doing so, Billy Graham speaks volumes of insight into what it means to grow old.

I especially loved his thoughts and wisdom on retirement. Truly, we never retire if we are devoted servants of the Lord. There is always work to be done. Billy Graham is a living testimony to that fact. He reflects upon his life and accomplishments only briefly and speaks not of the past so much as the present. It is the here and now that we have in living out our faith and it should continue until our dying day.

Truly, this book is for everyone. We don't want to look back on life and be consumed with wasted years. Billy Graham encourages us, along with the Apostle Paul, to fight the good fight, to finish the race. He urges us to keep running until we touch home base. This book will be a treasure for generations to come. A man with the wisdom of Solomon anda heart after God's own, coming along side the lost . . . leading them home.
