"A Place Called Blessing" was a wonderful follow up after reading "The Blessing" by Dr. Trent and Gary Smalley. Of all the "Christian" fiction out there, this book was refreshing and enlightening. It proved to me that "Christian" fiction does have it's place, it's just that very few books come close to sticking to core Christian principles when writing fiction. This one certainly does that and more. To me, this book is THE benchmark for Christian fiction. "A Place Called Blessing" is heart wrenching and will cause you to examine your own faith walk in more ways than one.
The book's story is derived from a young boy's life after losing his parents in a car accident. He reflects on his life with unfit parents, and then proceeds in and out of foster care, being separated and reunited, on and off again with his brothers. The authors use their principles from "The Blessing" to form all of the ins and outs of the story line and carve out a clear depiction of the principle of "The Blessing."
I would highly recommend that you read "The Blessing" first and this book as a follow up. If you must choose one or the other, I would definitely recommend "The Blessing." That being said, this was one of the most wonderful Christian fiction books I have read in a LONG time. It was wonderfully written and powerfully pertinent.
