I was truly excited to see that Leonard Sweet had published another book. His writings are profound, powerful, and truly pertinent in so many ways. My favorite of his writings is "Jesus Manifesto." But, "I Am a Follower," is a close second. These two writings although theological, transform your inner spirit when it comes to being a follower of Christ. We aren't followers of Christ to "lead" . . . followers of Christ "follow." It is Christ who leads the way. The whole book pointed my spirit to one Scripture:
Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” (Matthew 9:37-38)
Being a Christ follower means "following" Christ. And Following Christ means to "go about doing good." (Acts 10:38) Leonard Sweet leads you as he follows Christ in order to create more followers, "workers." His writing is brilliant and examples are deeply thought provoking.
This is not a "casual" read . . . at times it's a little heavy in theology, but Leonard Sweet has the gifted ability to make theology understandable to anyone and that is the treasure of this book that will drive you deeper in your faith and closer to Christ in every way.
