Waiting Patiently for the Door to Open

You know how impatient little children can be when they want something.  My son is no different, but he was having a beautiful and rare moment the other morning.  Let me explain.  Shia, my almost 2 year old son, has a room in our house that he has discovered is a lot of fun.  The door to this room remains closed most of the time because it is my massage therapy room…my office.  This particular morning, he climbed the stairs as I followed him and he went straight to the door and waited.  I watched Shia wait patiently while I put the safety gate in place at the top of the stairs.  I felt lead to sit on the floor and continued to watched him.  Shia never made one single fuss to get the door open.  He looked back at me a few times and then just looked at the door and continued to wait for at least 5 minutes.  In toddler time, that is an eternity.  I felt the Lord begin to speak to my heart.

He whispered, ‘Look at how patiently your son is waiting for you to open the door.  He is calm.  He has full trust in you that you will open the door eventually.  He is not complaining or getting demanding in any way.  He is not worried or upset that the door is not being opened in his timing.  He is eagerly waiting with expectancy for you to act but he remains peaceful and still.”

I know the Lord gave me this beautiful visual with my son to truly understand how we, as His children, should behave while we are waiting for Him to act on our behalf.

So how are you behaving, while waiting,
for God to open the next door?

Be encouraged! God’s timing is always perfect.

Psalm 37:7  Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him to act.

Psalm 5:3  Listen to my voice in the morning, Lord.  Each morning I bring my request to you and wait expectantly.

Isaiah 40:31  But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.

Galatians 6:9  And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we shall reap, if we do not give up.

Psalm 46:10  Be still and know that I am God.

This is what was on the other side of the door.
Shia loves to be on the massage table too.
