Be Prepared

(Devotional from "The Heart of God" to be published 2012)

On any given day, I may allow the rain to result in floods.
I may permit the winds to blow, so fierce, that you may
be convinced that I’ve abandoned you and decided
to cast you out into the abyss.
In the darkness, I will be your Light.
In your despair, I will give you hope.
In your pain, I will comfort you.
I will calm your fears and strengthen you through the storms of life.

Most often, you can find yourself unprepared for what lies
ahead in life; but, you shouldn’t be. If you have built your
“house” upon the Rock, it will stand through any storm of life.
If you’re foundation is sure, then the outcome is clear and
you are prepared for the worst adversity or trial.
Though it may be hard to comprehend, those
storms in your life come filtered through My love.

Though you may be momentarily surprised that I would
allow such pain and misery, you will soon grab hold of the
Truth that your heart holds onto in those moments of despair.
Your hardest nights, your darkest moments are My mercies
in disguise. They are tools in my hands to mold you and shape
you into the image of My Son. The testing of your faith,
the ability to withstand the most treacherous storms, creates
the assurance within your soul that your faith is firm.
Through the storm I’m strengthening you for the journey
ahead. So, when the waters are rising and fear is overwhelming,
cling to My Word . . . trust in My Promises.
If you will only trust Me . . .
you will be prepared for whatever lies ahead.

"And the rain fell, and the floods came,
and the winds blew and slammed against that house;
and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock.

Matthew 7:25 (NASB)

I wrote this on my Fearless Friday comment section today that I took from Streams in the Desert devotional. Your post reminded me of it..

From Streams in the Desert:

"Dear Lord, You have made waiting beautiful and patience divine. You have taught us that Your will should be accepted, simply because it is Your will. You have revealed to us that a person may see nothing but sorrow in his cup yet still be willing to drink it because of a conviction that Your eyes see further than his own. Father, give me Your divine power - the power of Gethsemane. Give me the strength to wait for hope - to look through the window when there are no stars. Even when my joy is gone, give me the strength to stand victoriously in the darkest night and to say, "To my heavenly Father, the sun still shines. " amen amen amen
