God the Builder

"Something" is happening . . . you're sure of it. You're trusting God, but things just don't make any sense. You pray continually, but you only find yourself facing more circumstances that overwhelm you. You pray for strength, yet God allows even more overwhelming situations that bring you to your knees. You pray for peace and God permits chaos. You pray for patience and God seems to think that you need to wait on Him longer than you ever expected. You "seek" after the Lord, but He seems to be hiding. What is going on? You find yourself struggling with your faith . . . fighting to hold on . . . only to find that Faith is holding on to you. And God IS at work. He's doing "something." He's working ALL things together for good. He's tearing you down, so that He can build you up. He's got the blueprints . . . and you can be certain that although you're life may be a mess for a while . . . you'll be AMAZED at what God builds. Trust Him with your life, He's already given His for you . . . sit back and watch Him work . . . He's the best at what He does. ; )

"Imagine yourself as a living house. God comes in to rebuild that house. At first, perhaps, you can understand what He is doing. He is getting the drains right and stopping the leaks in the roof and so on: you knew that those jobs needed doing and so you are not surprised.

But presently he starts knocking the house about in a way that hurts abominable and does not seem to make sense. What on earth is He up to? The explanation is that He is building quite a different house from the one you thought of-throwing out a new wing here, putting on an extra floor there, running up towers, making courtyards.

You though you were going to be made
into a decent little cottage:
but He is building a palace.
He intends to come and live in it Himself."

(parable by George MacDonald; Mere Christianity Book IV Chapter 9, C.S. Lewis)

Cherie... thanks so much for taking the time to visit my blog today and for leaving your kind words!

The house that God is building in me? I cannot fathom the depth and breadth of what he has in mind. I certainly don't have the blueprints, but I'm daily trying to find faith for the process.

Beautiful post. Critical reminder.

Hey Cherie,

I love this word today. Boy, can I relate! Isn't it strange at times how God builds our "houses!"

Thanks for always having a good and practical and challenging word on your blog.

Sorry I don't get by more often these days. Working on my Masters in Christian Ed at a local seminary. Keeping me really busy.

How are you? How can I pray for you today?

Blessings,
Melanie

Thanks for sharing the beautifully encouraging post, Cherie! What a lovely thought of God building us to become a palace in which He can live.
